NOIDA: Homebuyers in Greater Noida West (Noida Extension) have written to the Greater Noida Authority (GNIDA) and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) pertaining to non-adherence to the pollution control mechanisms in the area, where a lot of construction is under way.
The letter sent by Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) to the Greater Noida Authority and NGT has listed the NGT notifications which are being flouted by the builders.
Indrish Gupta, co-founder of NEFOWA, said that it was a constant health hazard for residents of Noida Extension. "Doors and windows are perpetually shut and children living in the area are developing breathing problems with the air being dust-laden," During peak hours, there is also heavy traffic rush," Gupta said.If this is the condition when not many people have started living here, one shudders to think of the pollution level when all the homebuyers move into their apartments, Gupta said. The letter has enumerated in details all the points of adherence to rules of NGT that the builders are supposed to follow including sprinkling of water on the buildings to plantinmg trees to mitigate dust and covering of material on site and on trucks to prevent dust flying. The letter also brings up the issue of heavy traffic at the approach of Noida Extension every evening.
"The letters have been dispatched two days ago, and we are hoping for a speedy intervention from the authorities concerned. The NGT also needs to see that its rulings are followed up at the ground level, otherwise, what is the point in any ruling?" Gupta said.
